Origin Story: The Sam Buckley Band began when Sam met drummer Grant Gerathy at the Lennox Hotel Jam Night over a year ago. They had an impromptu jam session that left a lasting impression on Sam, who thought, ‘This guy can play!’ After hitting it off, Sam invited Grant to join him in a duo. Their chemistry was undeniable, and they quickly started playing incredible gigs and festivals, including opening the Main Stage at Big Chill in Armidale with some of Australia's top artists. As their duo gained traction, Byron Luiters, a colleague and friend of Grant's, expressed interest in forming a trio. Byron and Grant, both former members of the John Butler Trio, brought a wealth of experience and top-notch musicality to the band. Their debut gig as a trio in May 2024 at the Northern in Byron Bay was a resounding success, earning them rave reviews and the title of Rolling Rivers Featured Artist.

Inspirations and Influences: Sam Buckley is influenced by a wide range of American Blues, Soul, Country, Jazz, and Folk music. Having spent many years perfecting his groove, rhythm, and timing, Sam's musical heroes include Eric Clapton, Peter Green, Albert King, Warren Haynes, and Stevie Ray Vaughan. Grant and Byron bring their extensive experience from playing with incredible artists such as John Butler, Bernard Fanning, Delta Goodrem, and Pete Murray. Their collective influences span rock, jazz, pop, and soul, adding depth and diversity to the band's sound.

Musical Genre and Style: Sam Buckley Band's music pays homage to the Blues, focusing on the core elements of groove, rhythm, and feel. Their sound captures the essence of the Blues while incorporating modern influences. The music is funky, driving, and rich in melody and rhythm. The band works hard to place their timing deep in ‘the pocket,’ creating a captivating and energetic performance. Their songs are wrapped in big, warm tones, catchy riffs, and high energy, making each performance memorable.

Notable Milestones: The band performs original songs composed by Sam, along with select covers. They are keen to release an EP or album next year. Their first public performance as a band was at The Northern in Byron Bay, where they blew the roof off and received an amazing reception. This debut marked the beginning of their journey to local fame and recognition.

Future Plans: The Sam Buckley Band has an exciting lineup of upcoming gigs, including:

- Sunday 25th August 2024 at the Ballina Blues Club - Special Guest Feature - Ballina

In addition to their band performances, Sam is also releasing his debut solo album, "Blue Ocean," at the end of the year. Three singles have already been released: "Blue Ocean," "Rock Me Baby," and "The Great Escape." Both "Blue Ocean" and "Rock Me Baby" made it into the AMRAP Top 10 Regional Chart and received radio play in the USA, Canada, and the UK. The album was recorded in Royal Studios in Memphis, with collaboration from Blues royalty, Lester Snell. This project has been a dream come true for Sam, allowing him to learn from one of the greats and work with the arranger and producer behind some of the world’s most famous Blues artists, including Albert King, Al Green, and BB King.

Anecdotes: Grant is humorously known as the ‘Car Park Fairy’ for his uncanny ability to secure premium parking spots right in front of venues at every gig. It's an amusing perk that we all enjoy!
