Band Name:
Sleeping Together
Formation Year:
Formed just a month or so before the first COVID outbreaks, the band spent much of their early days writing and
collaborating over the internet during lockdown.
Hometown:
Sleeping Together is a mix of Northern roots: their frontman hails from Manchester, the guitarist from Wales, and the drummer and bassist are based in Merseyside. Collectively, they’ve always called the North West home, despite being "scattered neatly."
Band Members:
Alexander Lloyd-Jones – Frontman, Guitar
Michael Corry – Lead Guitar
Amber Hughes – Drums
Daniel Turton – Bass Guitar
Origin Story:
The band members met through the site Join My Band, a platform they call a "relic," but one that led them to each other. Their name, Sleeping Together, came out of necessity. On the night of their first Radio X play, they needed a band name quickly. Alex suggested the title of an unwritten poem he’d been working on, and it stuck. That very night, John Kennedy named their debut release his "Hot One" on Xposure.
What Inspired the Band’s Formation?
The desire to live out their musical inspirations. With influences like Arctic Monkeys, The Strokes, and The 1975, the members were inspired by live performances and the idea of following in the footsteps of their heroes, much like wanting to become a footballer after watching a big match.
Musical Influences:
Sleeping Together draws heavily from the indie rock scene, including Alex Turner, Bloc Party, Albert Hammond Jr. of The Strokes, and early Catfish & The Bottlemen.
Genre:
The band’s style exists between Pop and Rock, with some songs firmly rooted in one genre while others explore the crossover space.
First Song Written:
Their debut track, "Empire," was inspired by Empire Exchange in Manchester’s Northern Quarter, a haven for everything from old model trains to underground paraphernalia. Though it’s no longer in their setlist, it remains part of their early story.
First Gig:
Sleeping Together’s first gig was at Jimmy’s Liverpool in late December, shortly before the venue closed. Securing the performance off the back of a post-lockdown free hire offer, they locked in a coveted Saturday night six months in advance.
Notable Milestones:
John Kennedy featured their debut single as a "Hot One" on Radio X.
Played their first gig at the iconic Jimmy’s Liverpool.
Upcoming performances include a headline show at Telford’s Chester and a support slot for The Clause at Liverpool Arts Club.
Future Plans:
The band is gearing up for their biggest show yet at Manchester Academy 2, alongside a string of live performances. Looking to 2025, they plan to release a new EP and several singles, and they’re excited to dive back into the creative process of writing.
