Origin Story: Sunday Riot Club was born out of a shared love for classic rock, with Jay Philips and Alex Maheux meeting through Facebook in 2017. Both were searching for bandmates who shared their musical influences, which leaned heavily towards bands like Metallica and AC/DC. After a successful jam session playing some classic covers, they quickly began writing their own material. Their first original song, "Where The Wild Things Are," still holds a place on their setlist and can be found on Spotify. Fast forward to 2023, and the band welcomed Scott Billings into the lineup as their full-time drummer. The trio has since been creating hard-hitting rock music that captures the raw energy of their influences.

Inspirations and Influences: Sunday Riot Club draws inspiration from rock legends such as Guns N’ Roses, The Cult, Billy Idol, and Kiss. Their music is characterized by heavy, catchy riffs, structured songwriting, and melodies that stick with you. Their sound is a blend of the powerful, anthemic rock of their heroes and their own unique style, which they describe as hard-rock, plain and simple.

Musical Genre and Style: Sunday Riot Club’s music is rooted in hard rock, with a focus on creating songs that are both powerful and memorable. Their style is defined by heavy guitar riffs, strong melodies, and a commitment to writing music that resonates with audiences. They aim to craft the next big anthem—songs that are fun to play live and impossible to forget.

Notable Milestones: Sunday Riot Club’s journey began with their first gig at The Brass in Aylmer, Quebec, where they played to a packed room of friends and early supporters. One of their most significant milestones came in August 2023, when they opened for rock legends The Dead Daisies at The Brass Monkey in Ottawa. Performing in front of a crowd of 400-500 people, SRC delivered a show that solidified their place in the local rock scene.

Future Plans: Sunday Riot Club has exciting plans for the near future. The band is preparing to head back into the studio to record a new single, followed by an off-the-floor EP recording session at Raven Street Studios in Ottawa. The EP will capture the raw, live energy of SRC, and the band will be shooting music videos for each track during the recording process. These upcoming projects are sure to showcase the band’s evolution and their commitment to delivering high-quality rock music.

Anecdotes: Sunday Riot Club’s bassist, Alex Maheux, was inspired to name the band after attending an Ottawa Fury soccer game, where he encountered the Stony Monday Riot supporters. The name Sunday Riot Club stuck because it was catchy, memorable, and just sounded awesome.
